Mission Statement

The Elizabeth Fry Society of Kingston is a non-profit, volunteer based, direct service organization offering services to women in conflict with the law and to women facing financial and social barriers that may put them at risk of coming into conflict with the law. The Society actively advocates for progressive legislative and administrative reform of the criminal justice system and other institutions; presses for social change as a means of crime prevention; develops viable community alternatives to incarceration and other punitive criminal sanctions; empowers and supports women in pursuing and upholding their rights; conducts education to inform the public about issues that disadvantage women in the justice system; and encourages public participation in all aspects of justice or women.

Vision Statement

To seek to improve the social, economic and political status of women and those who are socially and economically oppressed.

Elizabeth Fry Kingston was established in 1949 by a group of eight women who began visiting women serving sentences in the Prison for Women. Over 65 years later the agency is a long standing, non profit, charitable social service agency serving the greater Kingston area. We have a strong Board of Directors and long-term dedicated staff who have developed a high level of experience and expertise in dealing with women’s issues, particularly with women who are, have been, or are at risk of coming into conflict with the law and in the area of homelessness and prevention.
